Carp introduced into our wetlands do a lot of damage to the general ecology of those wetlands. They compete for food with local species, pollute the water, breed prolifically and eventually make the water dangerous for bird life and people.

The local council have recently been carrying out carp removal at Jackadder using an electric boat. The boat itself is not electric but the method of capture is. The boat slowly trawls through the lake with two electrodes sunbmerged in the water. Any fish that come within a certain distance are stunned and promptly scooped up. Those fish that have a visa to legally allow them to be in Jackadder are returned to the water with no harm, not sure where the carp go, but its not back in the water.
