A Test of Your Powers of Comprehension

Hullo Sailors,

The year is grinding remorselessly onwards towards next year and I haven’t been able to find a way to slow it down. My feeble attempt at organising a lockdown here in WA didn’t seem to slow us down at all – no sooner had we got the hang of staying at home and bumping elbows with chance acquaintances from across the room, we were released back to sailing and the tempo sped up again. Now we are plunging recklessly into November and Yuletide is revving its wheels in the metaphorical background.

slide1-lBut first we have some events to work our way through, starting from tomorrow.

Thursday 12 November 2020: IOM and DF 95 Club Racing, at Jackadder Lake from 2.00 pm. Weather: Partly Cloudy, Max 22, Light winds becoming westerly 15 to 25 km/h in the middle of the day then becoming light in the evening.

Saturday 14 November 2020: IOM and DF 95 Club Racing, at Jackadder Lake from 2.00 pm. Weather: Showers, Max 22, Partly cloudy. High (80%) chance of showers. The chance of a thunderstorm in the southwest in the morning. Light winds becoming westerly 25 to 35 km/h during the morning then becoming light during the evening.

AND

Saturday 14 November 2020: 10R Club Championship Heat 6, at Maylands, from 1.30 pm. Weather: Showers, Max 22, Partly cloudy. High (80%) chance of showers. The chance of a thunderstorm in the southwest in the morning. Light winds becoming westerly 25 to 35 km/h during the morning then becoming light during the evening. This will be sailed as part of Maylands’ own calendar, hence the 1.30 start.

Sunday 15 November 2020: IOM Metro Championships, at Champion Lakes, from 9.30 am. Weather: Partly Cloudy, Max 21, Slight (30%) chance of a shower, near the coastal suburbs. Winds west to southwesterly 15 to 20 km/h.

Online Entry is still possible for the Metros on Sunday … a goodly crowd is gathering …

And now to the test of your reading ability: Honest Butcher Rodney is currently aging the beef for his famous filet mignons, to be served up at our PRSC Christmas Lunch on Sunday 13 December, from 12 noon until 4 pm at the Warren Lake Hall on Woodlands Reserve, Teakwood Avenue, Woodlands, BYOG. The venue is just up the road from Jackadder Lake and is the same place we held last year’s Christmas Lunch at. And Wives, Partners, Better Halves and SWMBOs are all definitely invited.

Grilled fish will also be on the menu for those who aren’t into red meat, as will be a range of salads for those who prefer neither.

Now is the time (please) to reply to this email if you’re coming and let us know how many are coming and what their food preference is, for catering purposes, as they say. Please indicate if your significant other is a vegetarian, so we know to cater appropriately with something more than just extra rabbit food.

The exhortation to RSVP is for two-fold reasons: not only do we need to know how many filets and fillets to procure and cure, but there is also a COVIDsafe indoor seating limit at the venue that we have to abide by. Accordingly, failing to RSVP in a timely manner may mean that you’ll be out on your pat come Sunday 13th (and SWMBO won’t be happy). Previous assumptions that we knew you were coming because you always come or because you’re an office-bearer so you have to be there, ain’t gonna cut the mustard this year either.

Rodney likes to age the beef for as long as he can before the big day so, if nothing I’ve said above has convinced you to RSVP promptly, then let the thought of perfectly aged meat prompt you further.

Cheers
Bruce
