SWMBO Says

Hullo Sailors,

Driving back from an afternoon’s sailing at Austin Lakes just now, I was listening to  ABC radio and the theme of the talkback was “It’s never going to happen but I wish I could… “.

icouldListeners were phoning and texting in with their dream bucket list items but which they thought would never happen, for a range of reasons e.g. “I’d like to face Dennis Lillee on the centre pitch at the WACA  just once but it’s never going to happen because” (“we’re both too old and Dennis doesn’t do that stuff any more”).

One bloke phoned in and said he’d like to have a penguin tattoo’d on his bum (apparently it’s a thing) but it would never happen because “ ‘Er Indoors’ wouldn’t allow it”. The radio announcer said “But it’s your bum” and he replied  along the lines of “ Yeah but … happy wife, happy life, it’s not worth the agro …”.

I’m not sure if I thought he was a total coward or if I truly empathised with his dilemma – how often do we sailors not do something because SWMBO has denigrated your plan and made it clear that she doesn’t want you to do  (whatever it is) and so you think “happy wife, happy life, it was a bad idea anyway” and not do it.

Ladies, you have a lot to answer for …

Of course, these words don’t apply to me - I managed to escape the house and go sailing my DF 65 because SWMBO was away from home briefly but there were additional chores added to my list upon my return, so I guess what goes around comes around.

This weekend is just a basic club weekend of fixtures before the end of the month  and Albany sojourns interfere with the smooth flow of club fixtures.

Thursday 20 August 2020: IOM and DF 95 Club Handicap Racing at Jackadder Lake, from 2.00 pm. Weather: Partly Cloudy, Max 19, Slight (20%) chance of a shower in the southwest. Light winds.

Saturday 22 August 2020: IOM and DF 95 Club Racing at Jackadder Lake, from 2.00 pm. Weather: A Few Showers, Max 20, Partly cloudy. High (70%) chance of showers, most likely in the afternoon and evening. Light winds.

There’s also a Marblehead Shootout at Maylands on Saturday that may draw a few club sailors in that direction and our DF 95 racing is still an invitational for Wanderers sailors to turn up to if they wish. But otherwise it’s a plain jane Saturday in winter, with Light Winds to amuse us. J

Next week is the Great Southern Buster for IOMs in Albany, with 14 entrants so far (don’t forget to enter online if you plan to go) and all the hotties are heading south – for the stay-at-homes it will be handicap racing but it probably won’t be at South Perth, as the wheels of procedure appear to be grinding slow on that front. Until then, it’s just Light Winds at Jackadder.

Cheers
Bruce
